Off the Rails
It’s the spring of 1989 and rebellious, naive, fifteen year old Rachel Stark thinks she’s on top of it all. Her intense need to belong has thrust her deep into the world of West Edmonton Mall and the head bangers who rule it. She prowls the mall during the day and her nights are spent trying to keep up with her new older friends.
Through a series of betrayals by those close to her, Rachel’s life begins to derail. Her mother is plotting against her; her best friend betrays her and her new boyfriend cheats on her.
When exciting new friend offers Rachel the opportunity to run away to California, she jumps at the chance to embark a grand adventure toward a new beginning. Instead, Rachel is manipulated, lied to and assaulted. Physically and emotionally broken, she must search deep within her soul and find the strength to save herself.
Hey Darcy,
Love the conflict present in this introduction! What is the status? At the big London Book Fair and I miss my smoking partner! First time at one of these things as an author AND same old same old, LOL! Well they did let me in earlier than everyone else, being that this is London that could be a big thing from a culture of people who like to queue!
Hi Scott! Thank you for the visit. Rachel and her story are slowly making progress. I’m currently in the middle of a massive rewrite. The story is the same, I’m just giving it a little more edge and making some of the characters and descriptions deeper.
Enjoy London…and enjoy those cigars! Hopefully we will be able to catch up at SiWC 2011.
